Tirana International Airport opts for Lufthansa Systems’ cargo handling solution ELWIS
Tirana International Airport (TIA) will optimize its cargo handling processes with ELWIS from Lufthansa Systems. Both companies signed a four-year contract to this effect. The IT solution enables the Albanian airport to increase its efficiency, improve its customer service and meet the industry’s highest standards.
ELWIS already operates successfully in several Asian, African, European and South American airports. It covers the entire cargo handling workflow, from physical handling, documentation and electronic customs clearance, to the invoicing of handling services. The comprehensive solution integrates wireless technology using wireless PCs, handheld devices and fork-lift mounted terminals and offers real-time tracking and tracing over the entire shipment life cycle. ELWIS is part of the AdvancedCargo Suite, the innovative air cargo IT platform from Lufthansa Systems.
Tirana International Airport is located in Albania and was built 1957. It deals with 3,000 tons freight per year and plans to handle significantly more freight in the future. In 2007, more than one million passengers travelled through TIA. The airport is constantly being modernized and expanded.
